Barendd found himself fascinated by the human sailors and their work and asked to learn the trade as a means to pay for his passage. Barendd stayed the night in Easting with his Kin before seeking passage on a merchant vessel headed west along the River Chionthar. These dwarves were artisans and merchants who were well know across the Heartlands for the quality armor they crafted. Barendd was surprised to find a significant population of dwarves in Easting. With nothing more than the clothes on his back and a bag of supplies he walked west along the Trader’s Road to the town of Easting. Shortly after receiving the Morninglord’s blessing, Barendd said his goodbyes and set off for Waterdeep. Barendd prayed to Lathander to inform him of his intentions and in return the Morninglord bestowed upon him the rank of Dawnbringer marking him as one of the most devout and reverent followers of Lathander. Although the reports of the desecration of the Spires were distressing, Barendd was more focused on the opportunity to rebuild the temple of Lathander and to spread the Morninglord’s gospel. The Spires of the Morning, a massive temple to Lathander in Waterdeep’s Castle district, was destroyed by followers of Shar and Tempus during a night of riots. However, in 1345 DR word of the Night of Temple Fires reached Stonecrown. He became evermore devout and over the next 10 years he led a peaceful life helping the citizens of Stonecrown by blessing the young and healing the sick. He dedicated the temple to the worship of Lathander and continuously preached the Morninglord’s message of renewal. Barendd was born to become a disciple of Lathander and from the moment of his birth, he personified the Morninglord’s primary values: birth and renewalĪs the Brighthammer clan built up Stonecrown in the Giant’s Run Mountains, Barendd, pious as he was, found his vocation as the priest of the fortress. The warmth of the sun enveloped him and in that moment Lathander the Morninglord spoke. But as dawn broke and the sun rose from the East, Barendd realized that he was not alone. Upon the frigid mountain, he heard not a sound. Under the unfamiliar stars of western Faerun, he sat all evening and all night. The he sat under the stars, waiting for the spirit to reveal himself.

At dusk of the first day at his new home, as his family camped on the side of the mountain, Barendd hiked to the mountain’s summit. His birth was one piece of the renewal of his people. The spirit explained that as one of the Thunder Children, Barendd represented a new dawn for the dwarves across Faerun. In his vision, he heard a spirit explain to him the significance of his birth. Upon reaching the Giant’s Run Mountains, Barendd had a vision. The long journey across Faerun gave Barendd time to consider his place in the world. However, this huge swell of newborns had some unforeseen consequences in Gold Dwarf society causing the ancient fortresses to quickly become overcrowded and in 1335 DR, Torgrim Stonehearth took his family west from the East Rift in search of a new home with the rest of the Brighthammer Clan. Barendd Stonehearth was born in East Rift in 1306 DR during the Year of Thunder, when Moradin bestowed the dwarves of Faerun with the Thunder Blessing, greatly increasing the birth rate of dwarves all across the world.
